FIRST THING THAT YOU NEED IS TO DO IS GET ORGANIZED!
Where are you going to work?
If you haven’t already, selected and prepared one location for work, then you will want to do this now. If you are working from home, the ideal would be a room that is separate from your bedroom or area where you relax in your house. There is a psychology to that principle in that you want to try to keep work and home from overlapping. If you must use your bedroom, then designate a space away from the bed and try to separate. If you already have a home office or a place that you will go to do this work, then you are ready to move forward. * Some just use a laptop with a wireless card to work anywhere.
DO YOU HAVE EVERYTHING THAT YOU NEED TO GET STARTED
This is a list of the basics most need to get started. You may or may not need all 0 just depends on whether you will scan graphics, fax clients, etc. I know some that just have a laptop computer and wireless car, therefore this Getting Started is connected to the above. Some people have no work space at all.
GETTING STARTED BASIC NEEDS
COMPUTER / LAPTOP
The ideal would be to have a brand new computer or laptop. Unfortunately, this is not always an option when you are staring out and you will have to make due with what you have in order to get started. If you have an older system, I suggest that you get in the habit of backing up your system often and also utilizing online storage options in order to conserve space and your system resources. Not only do they store some of my general files, but I can also send my friends, referrals and business partners download links from the storage services. This enables them to download necessary graphics, files and e-books that I an providing them.
It is also the software that is essential here in this Computer section. When getting started in a business, you need to have the programs that you will use to organize and run your business. Whatever software that you do not have can get purchased as you are making money. There are a lot of free software resources online, too.
Microsoft Office is always a plus. Your computer more than likely came with Microsoft Works pre-installed. If you cannot get Microsoft Office then this will have to do. I will go into free, cheap and purchased software options, soon. For now, just make sure that the one you are using is cleaned out of excess files and images with one of the free storage and photo services that I am suggesting.

Keep your existing email address as your personal account. Set up at least three additional email addresses that you will designate for your online business.

A) Catch All For Business / Affiliate Programs
You will need a “catch all” email box for when you sign up for programs and for those programs to communicate your sign ups and changes to you.

You will need another email account to communicate with the “affiliates” and “business partners” that you will establish from the start.
c) All Purpose
You will need a “all purpose” email account for safelists and programs that you may want to use to get traffic, though do not want to communicate with on a daily basis.

Sign up for the Personal Pro account, so that you do not have complications later.

BLOGS & WEBSITES
Whether you already have a business, affiliate program, product or service in mind, or not, I would suggest that you quickly start a few blogs and at least one website. If you read my profile, then you will understand that I always have search engine promotion in mind in any new online marketing venture. This blog that you are reading has been sitting for months waiting for the content you are reading. It will pick up quickly because I set it up with keyword rich content, and then came back to get it going. Just make one page about you or an interest that you are knowledgeable about and get the following going:
Hub Pages (pays you)
Squidoo (pays you)
Wordpress (make a page, not a post)
(just make a post of what you are doing every couple of days. Make sure to place links to the 1-5 above when they are set up)

As you can see, getting started in online marketing requires organization and setting up the basics that you will need on a daily basis. Most importantly, getting started in online marketing and making money online requires that you first get your mind committed for long term personal success, as well as the success of others.
